TLCC News Summary 2004

December 2004 Holiday Party — The TLCC's December 7 monthly meeting continued the tradition of a holiday party catered by TLCC members Bonnie and Mike Zagorin. The food was excellent! Season's Greetings, and we'll see you at our meetings in 2005!

TACOMA-LAKEWOOD COIN CLUB 32ND SEMI-ANNUAL SHOWThe first show at our new location in south Tacoma was held October 16-17, 2004, and was generally successful. The next show is scheduled for March 12-13, 2005.

ANA Convention Report – TLCC members Don Tjossem, Becky Alexander and Dave Schmidt spoke at the September 7, 2004 TLCC meeting about their experiences at the recently completed ANA anniversary convention in Pittsburgh. Coins in the Classroom – TLCC member and teacher Ron Ahre speaks at the August 3 regular meeting about his interesting experiences at the ANA Summer Seminar, June 26-July 2, 2004 in Colorado Springs, CO. Ron took the "Coins in the Classroom" course, which is intended to give school teachers numismatic knowledge that they can use to develop lesson plans for use in their classrooms.

TLCC July Board Meeting & Party – The July 20, 2004 board meeting and club dessert party was held at Dave's scenic waterfront location in Gig Harbor. Cable TV Program "Reaching Out" – Three TLCC members, including club president Dave Schmidt, were interviewed by host Tom Jones for this local TV program on Comcast Channel 76. The program was shown a number of times during May 2004. If you found out about our club through this program, then we welcome you and invite you to attend a club meeting. See the club calendar.

Local child a winner! Tacoma-area student John Space repeated as the big winner in the recent PNNA Washington State quarter design competition for 5th and 6th graders. The winner was selected by a public vote at the 2004 PNNA convention in Tukwila. See the winning design on the PNNA website. The TLCC thanks teacher and longtime club member Ron Ahre for coordinating the quarter design competition entries from a number of local classrooms.

TLCC members tour the Fed – On Wednesday, May 12, 2004, a group of TLCC members had the rare opportunity to tour the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco branch office in Seattle. The Seattle Branch is primarily a cash and check handling facility. Persons taking the tour see (but unfortunately can't touch) a lot of cash! If you would like to be invited to participate in any future special tours, along with regular club events, consider joining the TLCC now!

TLCC May Meeting – The program topic for the May 4, 2004 TLCC meeting was "coin grading," with emphasis on silver dollars. Club members had the opportunity to grade 20 coins with feedback from the "experts."
